Ellis Effect psychologists have training and expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Family Focused Therapy (FFT). Using empirically-supported strategies and techniques, psychologists help the client to gain tools to tackle their mood, anxiety, interpersonal challenges, and behavioral difficulties. Treatment is action-oriented with personalized, individual goals formulated for each client.

Psychodiagnostic Assessment
Thorough assessment of current psychological difficulties using standardized instruments, record review, and client interviews.

The goal of a psychodiagnostic assessment is to clarify diagnoses to inform treatment recommendations. A typical assessment utilizes structured clinical interviews with the patient and parents (if applicable), a thorough record review of any prior assessments and academic records, interviews with other professionals (e.g., teachers, therapists, psychiatrists, etc.) and self-report measures. Following the assessment, a feedback session is provided to outline next steps and recommendations.

Consultation to clarify diagnosis, aid treatment planning, and develop a roadmap for future action.

Through the process of 1-2 appointments, our psychologists and psychiatrist will provide expert consultation and recommendations for moving forward with a treatment action plan. This may include insight into diagnoses, education on the treatments that may be useful, or coaching for a specific problem area. It will be individually tailored to the presenting concern and questions.
thinkSMART® and Executive Function Coaching
One-on-one coaching to improve areas of executive functioning through our thinkSMART@home program or our thinkSMART® Jr. Program.

thinkSMART@home is an individual coaching program designed to provide 1:1 help for executive functioning support for ages 11-adults. thinkSMART@home is a supplement of the thinkSMART® program and can be experienced as an adjunct of additional support following the 12-week program, or in isolation on an individual basis. The @home program allows for additional tailoring toward individual family needs. Like thinkSMART®, parents are expected to join for each session.
thinkSMART® Jr. is a new addition to the thinkSMART® family and is a group intervention tailored toward ages 9-11 to help with building solid foundational skills of executive functioning and behavior regulation. It is a weekly intervention for parents and their children to learn strategies to improve executive functioning.

Neuropsychological assessments assess how one’s brain functions and provides information on cognitive strengths and weaknesses. They provide information on the behavioral correlates associated with specific brain functions. Neuropsychological assessments cover areas such as intellectual functioning, executive functioning, attention, memory, visual-spatial skills, verbal skills, academic abilities, social functioning and psychological functioning.
Group Interventions
Empirically supported group intervention for teens, adults, and parents in areas of emotion regulation, executive functioning, perinatal anxiety, and parenting.

The following groups are currently being offered through the Ellis Effect:
PARENTING ANXIOUS KIDS (PAK)
Venue: Zoom
Open To: Parents of children ages 9-17 with OCD/Anxiety related disordersThe group will take place in 90-minute sessions for a period of 6 weeks. Parents are expected to commit to the entire program. The goal of the group is to provide families and caretakers with evidence-based, practical strategies for supporting children and teens struggling with anxiety/OCD.
If you are a parent with an anxious child or teen, you have likely experienced how your child’s anxiety can take a toll on the entire family system. The goal of the group is to help promote a change in family behavior by teaching parents how best to respond to their anxious child. Instead of helping your child avoid anxiety-provoking stimuli, you’ll learn new ways to engage that encourage confronting their fears. Families will develop strategies for communicating around and troubleshooting anxiety episodes at home. You can expect to gain confidence in parenting your anxious child, reducing your own accommodating behaviors, learn how to increase your child’s independence and aid in helping them better tolerate uncomfortable emotions. You can also look forward to receiving support from other parents experiencing similar challenges.
CBT FOR PERINATAL ANXIETY/OCD (GROUP)
This program is specifically tailored to address perinatal anxiety/OCD in women who are either pregnant or within 12 months postpartum. This skill-based therapy group aims to help those women struggling with anxiety/OCD problems, such as panic attacks, general worrying, or intrusive thoughts/compulsions. Individuals will be able to share their current stressors, as well as learn techniques to face their everyday anxiety specifically related to pregnancy or the postpartum period.EMOTION REGULATION SKILLS GROUP FOR TEENS
This group is for teens (13-17 y.o.) who are interested in learning evidence-based skills to help them manage their emotions and behaviors so that they can feel more in control of their lives & meet their goals! This group helps teens build insight into their triggers, learn ways to work through difficult emotions, and respond more effectively in the face of stress. Group skills will be pulled from evidence-based therapies (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy). Some topics may include:- Identifying and communicating emotions
- Distress tolerance
- Interpersonal effectiveness
- Mindfulness
